OFFICIAL 4AM UPDATE FROM DANE COUNTY:

“The Verona Fire Chief has confirmed to Dane County Emergency Management that 15 homes in the city sustained severe damage from this morning’s storms.

The City of Madison Fire Department confirms at least 16 homes in the city suffered severe damage and residents of those homes are displaced.  Homes were damaged on the southwest side and also the near east side.

Damage assessments are still underway.

There are numerous reports of damage across Dane County, a number of which occurred in a stretch from Verona northeast into Madison.  Several other communities are reporting trees and power lines down.

The National Weather Service reports that based on radar images it believes a tornado hit the Verona area shortly after midnight.

Madison Gas and Electric and Alliant Energy are reporting 6,000 homes are without power in Dane County.  A number of these outages are in the Town of Burke.

Additional severe weather is forecast for Dane County today.  There are currently no severe weather watches or warnings in effect [for Dane County].
