OFFICIAL 5:30AM UPDATE FROM DANE CO:

” There have been nearly 350 reports of weather damage across Dane County.

15-30 homes in the City of Verona were damaged.  Emergency responders report that Country View Elementary had a wall partially collapse.

Around 15 homes in Madison were damaged.  At least four of them lost their roofs.  Several trees on the west side of Madison appear “twisted” suggesting a possible tornado.  This information will be relayed to the National Weather Service.

Dozens of damage reports were also received from the near east side of Madison in the area of East Washington Avenue, Rutledge, and Jenifer Streets.  A large tree is still down across Gorham and crews are working to remove it ahead of the morning commute.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area of Verona around Nine Mound Road.

4600 homes remain without power across Dane County.

The American Red Cross is helping with housing.  Those needing help from the Red Cross are encouraged to call 877-618-6628 for disaster assistance or utilize the United Way’s 211 service.

Additional severe weather is forecast for Dane County later today into tonight, including the possibility of tornadoes.”
